Ours is a diverse staff by all measures:
More than 40 percent of UCI campus staff report an ethnicity other than White or Unknown. Our career staff work force is 4 percent Black/African-American, 17 percent Chicano/Latino, 21 percent Asian/Pacific Islander and 1 percent Native American.
- 66 percent of career staff are women.
- Ages range from 18 to 76; the average career staff member is 42 years old.
- Length of service ranges from less than one year to 39 years; the average is a little more than 8 years.
What do they do?
- About 6 percent work in senior and middle management titles.
- More than 50 percent are in fiscal or management support positions, such as the analyst series.
- The next largest occupational category is clerical/administrative at 25 percent.
- Additional staff are distributed among technical, service and trades positions.
Where do they work?
- About 30 percent of our staff work in Academic Affairs (including the schools and central offices).
- The next highest percentage, 29 percent, works at the School of Medicine.
- Student Affairs and Administrative & Business Services employ about 14 percent each.
- The rest are distributed among Advancement, Research and Graduate Studies, and - the smallest - the Chancellor’s Office.
