
Reduced Tuition and Fees
UC Policy PPSM-51: Reduced Fee Enrollment Opens a new window, allows UC "regular status staff" who are matriculated students at UC, to receive a reduction in certain fees for qualifying degree programs. Ensure you and your program of interest qualify by reviewing the information below.
Fee Reduction
Qualified staff members or academic employees who are matriculated students receive a two-thirds (2/3) reduction in the following categories for regular session courses:
- Student Services Fee
- University Tuition and Fees
- Campus-based Fees
Summer Session courses do not qualify.
There are no reductions in other tuitions and fees, such as the Professional Degree Supplemental Tuition.
Employees receiving reduced fees under PPSM-51 may not receive additional reductions in fees, such as under the Part-Time Study Program for Students. Opens a new window

To qualify for a reduction in fees under UC Policy PPSM-51 Opens a new window, an employee must be a "regular status staff" and a matriculated student.
A "regular status staff" is an employee with a "career" appointment type who has completed or is not required to complete probation. Examples of other appointment types are "casual restricted" or "contract."

Please note that under UC Policy PPSM-51, students are limited to the number of classes and units they are enrolled in per quarter: "nine units or three courses, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee." Most degree programs are eligible for reduced fees. However, there are some exceptions. Regular university courses of study that receive university funding are eligible; some programs are self-funded solely through tuition or other funding sources, and these programs are not eligible.
Under UC Policy PPSM-51, students are limited to the number of classes and units they are enrolled in per quarter: "nine units or three courses, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee." Speak with your program's academic counselor to verify if your degree program can be completed with these class and unit restrictions.

In addition, the following programs are not eligible for a reduction under PPSM 51:
- UCI ACCESS courses offered through Division of Continuing Education
- Summer School courses
- Master of Science in Nursing may not be eligible due to course load requirements. Please verify with program counselors.
It is your responsibility as a student to determine if the Reduced Fees Program applies to your course of study before you apply. You must complete these steps each quarter.
Staff Employees
- Confirm your eligibility as a qualifying student and employee. Review the eligibility requirements in the sections above.
- Confirm your program of study's eligibility for a reduction in fees by speaking with your program's academic counselor.
- Confirm your employee and program of study's eligibility with the Employee Experience Center at eec@uci.edu.
- Read the Application for Reduced Tuition and Fees Opens a new window form.
- Complete the form.
- Within 30 days of the tuition and fees payment deadline, you will need to have Human Resources sign the form by either scanning and emailing the form to eec@uci.edu.
- If approved, your signed form will then be emailed directly to the Registrar's office with you cc'd. The Registrar's office will not process a reduction in tuition and fees under this policy without the proper signatures.
Academic Employees
- Confirm your eligibility as a qualifying student and employee.
- Confirm your program of study's eligibility for a reduction in tuition and fees.
- Read the Application for Reduced Fees Opens a new window form.
- Complete the form.
- Within 30 days of the tuition and fees payment deadline, have Academic Personnel sign the form by either:
- Sending the form to Academic Personnel at Zot Code 1015
- Dropping off the form at Academic Personnel, 354 Aldrich Hall
- Attach a note to your application that indicates how you want the form handled after it is signed. your options are:
- Provide your name and phone number to be called to pick up your form
- Provide your campus mailing Zotcode for the form to be mailed to you
- Submit your completed form to the Registrar's office.
